People, who can count on us.
As a global leader in medical technology, Greiner Bio-One is committed to improving people’s health. At the same time, the company is taking important steps towards creating an attractive and safe working environment. Therefore, the activities focus on employees as well as the well-being of society.
Occupational health and safety
At Greiner Bio-One, health and safety are not a one-off task - they are an ongoing commitment. Creating and maintaining a healthy and safe working environment requires continuous improvement, awareness and active engagement.
Through clear policies, regular risk assessments, and preventive measures, we create a safe and supportive working environment. Ergonomic workplaces, health screenings, and sport programs strengthen physical health. Counseling services, stress management initiatives, and flexible working arrangements support mental well-being. Open communication, continuous training, and a proactive reporting culture drive transparency and ongoing improvement.
We have established globally standardized processes that ensure we work to the same high standards everywhere. These processes are continuously reviewed for potential improvements and adjusted as necessary.
At Greiner Bio-One, engagement and open communication are essential to fostering a strong health and safety culture. Regular surveys help us understand employee satisfaction, stress levels, and perceptions of safety, ensuring that we listen and respond to feedback. The insights gained from these surveys guide improvements and strengthen our initiatives.
We conduct regular risk assessments to identify potential hazards in all work areas, including chemical, biological, ergonomic, and psychosocial risks. Preventive measures such as engineering controls, personal protective equipment (PPE), and safe work procedures are implemented to minimize these risks. In addition, we analyze mental health risk factors by assessing workload, stress levels, and the overall organizational climate.
All employees receive mandatory Health and Safety trainings tailored to their specific roles and associated risks. To support mental well-being, managers and selected team members are trained in Mental Health First Aid, enabling them to recognize and respond to potential issues. We also promote continuous learning through regular safety campaigns, toolbox talks, and engaging digital modules.
We are committed to a strong reporting culture that provides easy channels for employees to report hazards situations, near-misses or accidents. Every incident is thoroughly investigated using root cause analysis, and lessons learned are shared across the organization to prevent recurrence. We track key health, safety, and well-being metrics through defined KPIs and conduct regular internal audits. This approach enables us to continuously improve our processes.
Employee development and working environment
Our dedicated employees’ knowledge and skills have made Greiner Bio-One an internationally successful company and, at the same time, they form the basis for our future survival. It is therefore even more important that we offer our employees an attractive working environment, are responsive to their needs and help them reach their potential. At the same time, our incentive is enabling further development and enabling our employees to develop both their professional and personal skills.
At Greiner our vision is to provide equal opportunities for everyone and act as a role model for creating an inclusive organization and society. We are committed to creating an open and inclusive environment where everyone is heard, respected, and appreciated. We ensure this with the following initiatives:
- Advisory Board for equal opportunities
- Human Rights Policy
- Inclusive Communication Guidelines
- Diversity e-Learning series
- Train-the-Trainer program to deliver respectful workplace trainings at our production sites
- Diversity network greiner.for.all with quarterly meetings
- Local employee resource groups (ERGs)
Social benefits vary regionally and therefore are very diverse. Every site can offer different opportunities due to the local regulations and budget. Some examples are motivation day with guest speakers, bring your family to work day, tax allowances or childcare support.
Greiner Bio-One offers flexibility in terms of working hours and location. This includes the option of working from home, if this is possible based on the specific work and local laws.
As an international company it is important to offer language courses to encourage international cooperation. We do so by granting licenses for language learning applications.
Greiner Bio-One trains young people who want to learn a technical profession in Austria, Germany, USA, Brazil and Thailand. Depending on the location, the roles trained include plastics technologist, machine and system operators, tool mechanics, chemical laboratory and mechatronics technicians as well as industrial clerks.
Greiner Bio-One offers its employees a wide range of training opportunities, for example through its internal Greiner Academy or through external training courses. These range from professional and individual training courses to further company-wide education programs through to management training programs.
In addition to the regular two-year vocational machine and system operator course, Greiner Bio-One Frickenhausen (DE), together with educational (GARP) and business (Chamber of Industry and Commerce, Employment Agency) institutions, launched a new further education program for this profession starting in March 2022. Existing employees can complete a course that provides them with technical training and further education for their job in just five months and on full pay.
As part of our group-wide talent management process, critical key positions in the company are identified and succession pipelines reviewed. The program also facilitates the structured development of potential, by setting performance & development goals and assessing it in regular staff appraisals and people development forums where managers align their potential & performance evaluations about their employees with the HR department.
Corporate social responsibility
Greiner Bio-One supports local and regional organizations that are committed to public well-being. These include educational and scientific training institutions, non-profit health institutions and associations, volunteer organizations and sports clubs. We also support scientific exchange in the healthcare and life science sectors through our participation in scientific congresses and networks.
Greiner Bio-One has been supporting the non-profit association “Geben für Leben – Leukämiehilfe Österreich” [Give for Life – Leukaemia Support Austria] since 2021. When treatment or chemotherapy no longer help, a stem cell donation to people with leukaemia or other blood disorders is often the last hope for recovery. This is where the mission of “Geben für Leben” comes in, namely finding life-saving stem cell donors for these ill people. This is only possible if as many healthy people as possible are typed with a cheek swab or blood sample and made available as potential donors. For a stem cell donation, the patient's “genetic twin” – in other words a person whose tissue markers perfectly match the patient’s body – has to be found. Since the start of the cooperation, Greiner Bio-One has financed over 3,200 typing tests, donated blood collection products and organized several typing campaigns with employees.
