Frickenhausen, March 2026 ā As one of the worldās leading providers of plastic solutions for the medical technology and life sciences industries, Greiner Bio-One is taking another step forward in its sustainability efforts. Since the beginning of 2026, a total of 127 products from the BioScience portfolio have been certified with the My Green Lab Ecolabel. These include the most important products from the following product groups: cell culture microplates, microplates for biochemical assays, storage plates and polypropylene plates, ThinCert HTS inserts, Cryo.s cryogenic tubes, centrifuge tubes, and serological pipettes.
Outstanding results for ThinCert HTS inserts and serological pipettes
Particularly pleasing: The ThinCert HTS Inserts achieved a Gold status in the ACT rating system and, with 62 points, scored the highest among the newly certified products. These are 96-well cell culture inserts that enable in vitro testing of tissue models using high-throughput applications. Previously, Greiner Bio-Oneās serological pipettes had already set an industry standard in 2024: They were the first serological pipettes on the market to be awarded the ACT Ecolabel. At the same time, they achieved very good results in several evaluation categories ā including production impacts, use of renewable energy, transportation, and packaging.
āāWith ACT certification now awarded to 127 of our products, we are setting a new benchmark for measurable sustainability in the laboratory. Independent verification and transparent data give our customers a reliable foundation for informed decision making, while enabling us to make a tangible contribution to reducing environmental impact in daily lab operations.āā
ACT Ecolabel as a basis for more sustainable purchasing decisions
The ACT Ecolabel from My Green Lab provides independently verified, reliable, and transparent information on the environmental impact of laboratory products. ACT stands for Accountability, Consistency, and Transparency. The ACT Ecolabel uses a science-based, 100-point weighted score (version 2.0) that allows for easy comparison of products. Higher ACT Environmental Performance Factor scores indicate greater achievements in product sustainability. The factors evaluated include materials, energy use, chemical hazards, packaging, end-of-life options, recyclability, as well as an evaluation of the manufacturing facility and the companyās commitments and goals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. By investing in the ACT Ecolabel, Greiner Bio-One supports scientists and procurement professionals in making environmentally conscious purchasing decisions and improving the ecological footprint of laboratories.
Sustainability activities with positive impacts
Numerous initiatives at the site have a positive impact on the products manufactured and their environmental impact. The Frickenhausen (Germany) production site obtains 100% of its energy from renewable sources and operates its own solar power system. As part of the Greiner Group, Greiner Bio-One pursues science-based targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions under the SBTi (Science Based Targets Initiative) and has received ratings from independent external platforms and initiatives such as EcoVadis (Platinum status) and CDP (B rating in the climate category).
With the latest expansion of its ACT-certified portfolio, Greiner Bio-One underscores its commitment to making sustainability measurable and offering responsible solutions for the life sciences industry. At the same time, the company is continuously working to further optimize its product solutions and their environmental impact and to realize potential for improvement.
