What You Can't Miss – In a Nutshell

Digitalized workflows bring vital benefits to preanalytics

  • Key benefits are reduced error frequency, improved patient identification, transport monitoring and increased sample integrity. AI support programs will become a necessity to maintain quality in healthcare, with an increasing number of people using healthcare systems.

Acceptance of robots in blood collection

  • The integration of robots for venous blood collection in some wards has sparked interest, with patient acceptance being a key factor discussed by Henk Ruven.

AI will be accepted, if it gives you convenience

  • Despite privacy concerns, which need to be addressed, AI supported decision making will be accepted if it brings convenience to users and patients, such as fewer recalls for further lab tests.

“In laboratory medicine we always talk about measurement uncertainty and the best test and everything, but we have to look at the value of a lab test in the whole clinical, medical path of a patient. And I'm convinced that lab testing is very valuable. It's even more valuable than we think. So AI algorithms have to be made of each patient group, every patient journey, and lab medicine has a place in such a journey.”
