Cooperation partnership "Geben für Leben"

Last edited: | Social Responsibility - Back to overview

The association "Geben für Leben" (Give for Life - Leukaemia Aid Austria) can already look back on 20 successful years in which more than 100,000 people have been type tested and 255 life-saving stem cell donors have been found. The joint partnership will further support the association in its ambitious mission. Because finding a suitable stem cell donor is a difficult undertaking. Depending on the DNA type, the chances of a patient finding a suitable stem cell donor outside the family range from 1:500,000 to several million.

"Geben für Leben" has made it its goal to recruit people for a life-saving stem cell donation in order to give seriously ill people a chance at life.

We at Greiner Bio-One are also committed to people's health and want to set a clear example in our social responsibility. Since April 2021, we have therefore been supporting the association "Geben für Leben" in its search for stem cell donors in a cooperative effort. With this cooperation, we strengthen people who make a big difference in health.

“We are looking forward to a good cooperation for the benefit of the many people concerned within the framework of the new cooperation.”

Greiner Bio-One supports Leukemia Aid with 40,000 euros

Our company makes cash and in-kind donations worth 40,000 euros. With this money, Greiner Bio-One finances about 900 typing tests for people who want to become stem cell donors for leukaemia patients. Furthermore, the company supports with products for blood collection, which are used during typing test campaigns. As a manufacturer of plastic products for medicine and life sciences, Greiner Bio-One is setting an important example for people's health with this partnership, in line with its guiding principle of making a difference.

“Now more than ever, we humans are united by the desire for perfect health. We at Greiner Bio-One have set ourselves the goal of making a difference for people's health. With the 'Geben für Leben' association, we have found a committed partner with whom we can make a significant contribution to people. We are excited about the new partnership and look forward to future joint actions.”

Last hope

Stem Cell Donation

For patients with a serious blood disease such as leukaemia, a stem cell donation is often the only chance of a cure. Leukaemia is also known as blood cancer. The disease originates in the bone marrow, where the body produces the blood cells. When chemotherapy and radiation don't help, a stem cell donation is the last hope in the fight against leukaemia and other blood diseases. After the patient's immune system has been destroyed by chemotherapy, an attempt is made to build up a new and healthy immune system with the donor's healthy stem cells.

Stories of employees

"As part of my voluntary work as a paramedic with the Red Cross, I had a patient transport to Salzburg a few months ago. We brought a 5-year-old girl and her mother to the pediatric oncology department, who had been diagnosed with leukemia only a few hours earlier. Talking to the young mother, I learned about the upcoming treatments of the little patient, the long hospital stay, the uncertainty about the outcome...

All this touched me deeply and I asked myself the question: 'Can't we do something?' That's when I came across "Geben für Leben" a few days later. I requested the test kit online, which was in my mailbox a short time later: unpack the package, read the description, take the cotton swab out of the package, turn it several times on the inside of the cheek, put it back in the package, and off to the post office. Now I'm waiting for the call to give my donation for a life."
