New photovoltaic system in Brazil: Greiner Bio-One continues to expand solar energy
The expansion of renewable energies is a key lever for climate protection. At Greiner Bio-One, several photovoltaic systems have been making an important contribution to making energy supply more sustainable since 2020. Another milestone followed in South America with the first photovoltaic system outside Europe.
New photovoltaic system at the new logistics center in Brazil
The construction of a logistics center in Santa Bárbara d'Oeste (state of São Paulo, Brazil) was completed in September 2025. With an investment of around 12 million euros, the new logistics center is a strategic step for the further expansion of Greiner Bio-One in Brazil and throughout Latin America. In the second quarter of 2026, a photovoltaic system went into operation at this location. The system comprises 480 solar panels covering an area of around 2,660 m² and is expected to cover around 40% of the site's electricity consumption in the future.
"We are delighted that we have been able to implement this photovoltaic system at our new logistics center. The electricity it produces will strengthen our local energy autonomy in the future and contribute to achieving our company-wide climate goals."
Haroldo Graci, Sales Director LATAM and Managing Director Greiner Bio-One Brazil
With the new photovoltaic system in Brazil, Greiner Bio-One now has a total of 1,910 solar panels covering an area of around 5,500 m², which generate electricity at several locations.
Renewable energy as part of the Blue Plan sustainability strategy and goals
Renewable energy is anchored in the Blue Plan sustainability strategy, which has formed the overarching framework for all sustainability activities of the Greiner Group since 2020. Our goal is to cover 100% of our electricity needs from renewable energy sources by 2030. This is already the case at our locations in Austria and Germany.
In addition, Greiner relies on expanding its own electricity production through photovoltaic systems at sites where it makes economic sense. In 2025, a total of 0.9% of electricity consumption was covered by self-produced renewable electricity from photovoltaic systems within the Greiner Bio-One division. We are working to continuously increase the share of renewable and self-produced electricity while reducing our energy consumption.
Existing photovoltaic systems at several European locations
Greiner Bio-One has been producing its own electricity from renewable energy sources since 2020. Photovoltaic systems are already in successful use at several locations:
- The sales site in Alphen aan den Rijn (Netherlands) has had a photovoltaic system since 2020, which has already been expanded several times and now comprises 462 solar panels. From March to September 2025, the facility covered the entire electricity demand for the site’s office and warehouse spaces. On an annual average, the facility generates about twice as much electricity as the site consumes each year.
- At the production site in Frickenhausen (Germany), a photovoltaic system comprising 367 modules went into operation in 2022.
- In 2023, photovoltaic systems comprising a total of 600 modules were installed at the production sites in Kremsmünster and Rainbach (Austria) to cover part of the electricity demand.
